How Did Sonu Sood Reach Punjab’s Flooded Border Villages to Help Victims?

Sonu Sood in flood-hit Punjab: “Adopt one roof, adopt one family.” He calls for collective action to rebuild homes and hope.

Actor Sonu Sood joined journalist Barkha Dutt in a heartfelt conversation about the devastating floods in Punjab. The discussion highlighted the struggles of families who lost homes, farms, and livelihoods.

Sood, known for his humanitarian work during the COVID crisis, is once again on the frontlines. He described villages near Amritsar, Ferozepur, and Fazilka as "in real bad shape," with many still accessible only by boats. While food aid has reached, broken homes and loss of daily income remain the biggest challenges.

He launched a campaign “Chhat Aapki, Zimmedari Hamari” (Your roof, our responsibility), urging people to adopt families, rebuild homes, or provide livestock to restore livelihoods. Sharing personal stories, he spoke of an eight-year-old kidney patient Abhijot and a widow near the Ferozepur border who had lost her mud house. For them, even one roof meant hope.

Sood stressed that Punjab needs both immediate help and long-term support. He also urged unity when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits, saying people must voice problems constructively so real solutions follow. Celebrities like Diljit Dosanjh, Jassi Gill, and Vicky Kaushal have also joined relief efforts, reflecting Punjab’s deep-rooted spirit of community.

Bottomline by Barkha

"Punjab deserves not just admiration for its resilience but also a firm helping hand. As Sonu said, ‘Hath thaam lijiye… ek chhat se zindagi ban jaati hai.’
