A former National Badminton Player, made her way into acting after pursuing modelling. She bagged her first project in South Indian language film titled ‘Aishwarya’. Marking her entry into Bollywood, she earned fame in her stellar debut film ‘Om Shanti Om’ starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She is one of the few actresses in the industry who have seen an early success.

Deepika Padukone has always been vocal about battling depression, has also started a Live Laugh Love Foundation that caters to spreading mental health awareness in India. She has been vocal about mental health in many of her events, interviews and chat shows.

Deepika Padukone has always played characters that have portrayed the glamorous side of hers. But with chhapaak, she transcended into a role that brought a new definition to beauty.

In a Dainik Bhaskar conclave with Barkha Dutt, she reveals Post her makeup as Malti, she never felt any different. She remarks “Whatever we see in the mirror is nothing, what we feel is what matters. With a different face when I saw myself, I never felt any different.”

The movie Chhapaak revolves around the life of an acid attack survivor who deals with various emotions. She said “All these girls who were beautiful before and previous the attack.”

Doing a movie like Chaapaak needs you to delve deep into the character, understand the struggles the person has been through and face the reality. Doing so requires an emotional understanding of the character.

“I have always been very emotionally aware. Lakshmi and I have connected after similar incidents in our lives. It’s the fighting spirit in us that led us to do something different.”

In a patriarchal society that treats women artists indifferently from their male costars, Ranveer Singh has been a supportive husband, remarks Deepika. “There was a point when I was earning more than Ranveer, when I was more successful, but he was always supportive of me.
