According to family members, 23 years old Mazhar has been missing since the train collided on June 2.
Soni Begum’s look had a unique combination of hope and agony. Her 23- year old son, Mazhar, has been missing since the train on which he was going to Calcutta collided with two others on the June 2. The woman from Kolkata exclaimed “We have been looking for him since the accident happened but we cannot find him”.
Soni also expressed a great amount of disillusionment from the police. “The police have been extremely lax and insensitive while dealing with the family of victims” she added and according to her, even a proper FIR was not filed by the police. Mazhar, a student, was travelling with his friend from Bhadrak, a town in Odisha to Kolkata, to meet his family, when this incident happened.
“We have been to multiple mortuaries in Soro, Bhadrak, Balasore and Cuttack but there is still no sign of him” she said.
While there was a calm despair in the demeanor of the mother the father was more agitated and visibly angry. “He always kept his ID with him, there is no chance that he is missing without identification ” the father said with pride allaying all doubts of his son going missing.
There was a glint of hope in both the parents’ eyes that promised that they still hoped to find their son. But the hope was ebbing with each passing second and each counting dead body.
At least 288 people died and more than 900 have been injured after 10-12 coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed in Balasore on Friday (June 2) night and fell on an adjacent track in the path of another train – the Yashwantpur-Howrah Express.
After two days of the incident, majority of the Human population has been evacuated from the spot, track restoration has been gaining pace and the damaged trains are being cleared from the area.
