Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur defeated Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in the Amritsar East Assembly seat in Punjab.
Kaur won the Assembly constituency Amritsar East constituency by bagging total votes of 39,679 – almost 7,000 more than the second-best, Sidhu.
Kaur spoke to Mojo Story and said that the AAP party delivered on their promises in Delhi. “It was the magic of Arvind Kejriwal’s good governance that helped AAP win Punjab,” she said, referring to the city’s tried and tested model of good governance in Delhi.
She further stated that people wanted change, so they voted for AAP, “People will see a change in a couple of months.” Kaur went door-to-door to connect with people during elections, “I would be a good MLA first and will be accessible to everyone on the ground.”
The newly-elected MLA believes in the equal representation of women in politics, “the country that was run by women in covid functioned incredibly well. This is indeed a big win for the women.”
