Indian Navy Goes Traditional
In a first, the Indian Navy now allows kurta-pyjama attire in messes, complying with government directives to shed colonial remnants and promote indigenous military traditions. Officers may wear ethnic attire—kurta-pyjamas with sleeveless jackets and formal footwear—in mess premises. Decision made during naval commanders’ conference chaired by Admiral R Hari Kumar, recognizing kurta-pyjamas as 'national civil dress'.
