Indians Are Spending More on Paan & Cigarettes Than Education

India's Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2022-23 just came out, and it's got some jaw-dropping stats. People in both rural and urban areas are spending more money on paan, tobacco, and other intoxicants. Rural spending shot up from 3.21% to 3.79%, while urban spending climbed from 1.61% to 2.43%. These numbers paint a clear picture of the health risks associated with these habits and the grim part of these numbers is that families are not very worried about health complications arising from this consumption.
