What Is The Model Code Of Conduct (MCC)?

As per the declaration by the CEC, the Election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced since today. MCC, issued by the Election Commission of India (EC), outlines conduct standards for political parties and candidates during elections. It facilitates complaint lodging with EC observers in case of disputes and dictates the conduct of ruling party ministers. In 2019, an amendment regarding election manifestos prohibited promises contradicting constitutional ideals. Notably, the MCC, being non-statutory, may not invite penal action.
