Meet ‘Sher’: Indian Army’s New AK-203 Beast Made In India
Indian Army’s new indigenous AK-203 “Sher” rifle debuts — lighter, more powerful, and built in India, marking a major upgrade in infantry firepower.
The new AK-203 assault rifle — now being called “Sher” — has begun arriving for the Indian Army straight from its manufacturing plant in Amethi’s Korwa facility. As part of a major modernisation push, Sher promises a big upgrade over the outdated INSAS rifle: 700 rounds per minute rate of fire, effective range up to 800 metres, lighter build, and fully indigenised production slated by December 2025.
