"No Reset Yet" | Why Modi & Trump Need To Meet

Why the India-US Reset Remains Uncertain

The India-US relationship shows little sign of a genuine reset despite recent cordial exchanges between leaders. Meaningful progress requires face-to-face meetings at events like the upcoming Quad Summit in Delhi or the Azion Summit in Malaysia. Recent US actions—including trade policies, claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, and private meetings with Pakistan’s army chief—have angered the Indian public and broken trust. As a result, India’s previous tilt toward the US is likely to diminish, and any diplomatic “healing” will be slow and limited in its impact. Short- to medium-term recovery appears challenging.
