Robert Vadra has set the cat among the pigeons by declaring that he is open to contesting lok sabha elections from Amethi, a seat held by his brother-in-law until the BJP's Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019. Smriti Irani is back as the BJP candidate in Amethi but the Congress has not declared its candidates either for Amethi or Rae Bareli once considered Gandhi family bastions.Vadra's comments- though made in a general manner and not about this election- have attracted a fair degree of criticism even by critics of the government and supporters of the Congress
