237 Petitions Against CAA in the SC
More than 237 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the CAA or the Citizenship Amendment Act notified recently by the Modi government. The law that allows illegal migrants from six religious communities and three countries to be naturalized as Indian citizens on a fast track, has been challenged on the grounds of religious discrimination. The petitions are being heard by a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Is the CAA 'unconstitutional' as alleged by the petitioners and its critics?
