How Did a 9-Year-Old Fall from the 4th Floor of a Jaipur School? Unanswered Questions Keep Growing

A family fights for justice after 9-year-old Amaira dies at Jaipur’s Neerja Modi School amid bullying claims and shocking lapses in safety and accountability.

In an emotional and deeply troubling conversation with senior journalist Ms Barkha Dutt, Sahil Dave — the maternal uncle of 9-year-old Amaira, who died after falling from the fourth floor of Jaipur’s Neerja Modi School — detailed allegations of prolonged bullying, institutional negligence and a worrying attempt at a cover-up by the school administration. Sahil, whose sister is Amaira’s mother, has emerged as the family’s voice as they seek justice for the young child.

From the start of the discussion, Sahil described how Amaira had repeatedly complained of bullying for over a year. On the very day of her death, he says she approached her teacher four to five times, seeking help after classmates used abusive language and disturbed her. Yet, instead of support, the family alleges she was told to “adjust.”

The CCTV footage seen by the family shows Amaira leaving the ground-floor classroom, climbing four floors without being stopped by any guard or teacher, and moments later falling from the balcony — a chilling reflection of the school’s lack of vigilance. Sahil further revealed that the school selectively leaked only 30 seconds of CCTV, while withholding the critical footage from the rest of the day. He also accused the school of washing the bloodstains and blocking officials from entering the premises.

Shockingly, Sahil told Ms Dutt that neither the principal nor Amaira’s teachers contacted the family even once since the tragedy.

In her concluding remarks, Ms Barkha Dutt called the incident “a devastating failure of responsibility,” stressing that this case raises urgent questions about school safety, bullying protocols and institutional accountability.
