I Didn’t Want to Join Bollywood Because…” Navya Nanda on Redefining Her Legacy | Barkha Dutt
Navya Naveli Nanda opens up to Barkha Dutt on legacy, leadership, and creating change — from assembling tractors to empowering women across India.
In this inspiring episode of Inside Out with Barkha Dutt, Navya Naveli Nanda — entrepreneur, women’s rights advocate, and granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan — opens up about her journey from family legacy to individual impact. As the daughter of Nikhil Nanda, CMD of Escorts Kubota, Navya has gone beyond the fame of Bollywood royalty to build her own path in business and social change.
Navya shared how she trained on the shop floor, even assembling tractors by hand, before stepping into the family’s agri-machinery business. Alongside this, she founded Project Naveli, a non-profit dedicated to women’s empowerment and gender equality. Currently pursuing a management program at IIM Ahmedabad, she balances her studies with her entrepreneurial and advocacy work.
In her conversation with Barkha Dutt, Navya spoke of the strong matriarchs who shaped her — particularly Jaya Bachchan, whose dream of joining the army and dedication to women’s welfare continue to inspire her. She also discussed facing online negativity, embracing confidence, and her firm belief in self-competition over comparison.
Towards the end, Barkha Dutt lauded Navya for representing a generation that values purpose over privilege, and business over Bollywood — a young woman turning legacy into leadership through hard work, humility, and heart.
