“LeT Given a Free Hand”: Hasina’s Son Drops Major Bombshell After Death Sentence in Bangladesh

Sajeeb Wazed Joy warns of rising militancy in Bangladesh, praises India for support, and says no fair trial is possible under the current regime.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her key political adviser, spoke in a detailed interview about the deep political and security crisis unfolding in Bangladesh. Joy, who now lives in exile with his mother, strongly criticised the current unelected government and highlighted the dangers facing the region.

In the discussion, he explained that Bangladesh has been under an undemocratic setup for over a year and a half, with tens of thousands of political prisoners still in jail. Joy said his mother’s conviction and death sentence were delivered through a “kangaroo court” without due process. He argued that no fair trial is possible under the current system.

A major part of the conversation focused on the militant threat. Joy claimed that Pakistan’s ISI influenced and funded parts of last year’s protests, and that armed militants infiltrated the movement. He also warned that Lashkar-e-Taiba and other extremist groups are now operating freely inside Bangladesh. According to him, these groups are linked to recent terror attacks in Delhi, making the situation dangerous for India as well.

He expressed strong gratitude to India, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government “saved” Sheikh Hasina’s life by helping her leave Bangladesh during the crisis. On extradition, Joy said India is unlikely to act on an illegal request, and he trusts India’s commitment to rule of law.
