Ram Madhav with Barkha Dutt: Who Truly Began Hindu-Muslim Outreach – PM Modi or Rahul Gandhi?
Ram Madhav opens up on the RSS-BJP bond, India’s evolving politics, and why dialogue—not division—will shape the nation’s future.
In an exclusive conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt, Ram Madhav — former RSS National Executive member and BJP’s National General Secretary — shared an insider’s view of the evolving relationship between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Known for his candid views, Madhav explained how the RSS has remained relevant for a century by balancing tradition with modernity.
He dismissed the notion that the RSS controls the Prime Minister or the BJP, describing their bond as one of “shared conviction, not command.” On the 2024 elections, he denied reports of any lack of RSS enthusiasm, calling it a “myth.”
Reflecting on change, Madhav said the RSS has evolved on social issues, especially caste, and is now focusing on unity, environmental responsibility, and women’s inclusion. He emphasized that the RSS seeks harmony among all communities, citing outreach to Muslim and Christian groups as examples of dialogue over division.
When asked about ideological differences, he maintained that the RSS and BJP operate as parts of the same family, respecting each other’s roles. On India’s political discourse, Madhav lamented the rise of “political untouchability,” urging leaders to debate without hostility.
Concluding the discussion, Barkha Dutt noted that despite ideological divides, Madhav’s emphasis on dialogue and mutual respect offers hope for more inclusive politics — a sentiment he endorsed, calling it “the need of the hour.”
