Trump Claims He Prevented India-Pakistan War Using Tariffs, India Stands Firm

Trump’s tariff claims spark debate; Indian experts stress calm, clarity, and strategy over political noise in Barkha Dutt’s latest discussion.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed his trade tariffs prevented a possible war between India and Pakistan, calling himself a “global peacekeeper.” Responding to these remarks, Barkha Dutt hosted an insightful discussion with Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar (former Indian diplomat), Suhasini Haidar (senior journalist), and General Raj Shukla (former Army Commander).

Ambassador Sajjanhar stated that Trump’s repeated claims lack credibility, pointing out that no such conversations took place between Prime Minister Modi and Trump during the said period. He described Trump’s assertions as “irrational and exaggerated,” adding that India should remain cautious of Pakistan’s attempts to use global narratives to its advantage.

Journalist Suhasini Haidar noted that the Indian government’s silence allows misinformation to persist. She emphasized that while India has denied Trump’s claims before, stronger and more frequent responses may be necessary to counter false narratives.

General Raj Shukla dismissed Trump’s statements as “delusional,” urging India to separate “truth from friction.” He highlighted that India’s focus should remain on strategic stability and managing real security challenges rather than reacting to Trump’s rhetoric.

In conclusion, Ms. Barkha Dutt summarized that while Trump’s exaggerations draw attention, India’s measured approach reflects confidence and maturity. The experts agreed that diplomacy, not drama, should define India’s response.
