Trump vs India: 50% Export Tariff – Will Indian Workers Lose Their Jobs?

The USA is India’s single largest export destination, accounting for nearly 29% of all textile and apparel exports in 2024. Mojo Story visited a textile manufacturing unit in Noida and spoke to its owner, Umesh Bharti, about the impact of the newly imposed 50% US tariff.

Will this tariff slash sales, force factory shutdowns, and cost workers their jobs? Bharti admitted the move would have a negative impact and that some units might even close. However, he also pointed out that the crisis could become an opportunity for Indian manufacturers to strengthen their foothold in the domestic market.
